Seeking God’s Paths

Teach me your way, Lord, that I may rely on your faithfulness; give me an undivided heart, that I may fear your name.
Psalm 86:11

In Psalm 86:11, the psalmist’s plea echoes through the ages, resonating with our own longing to walk in the ways that please God. Yet, how often do we find ourselves straying from His paths, guided instead by our own desires and ambitions?

It’s true that we often choose our own paths, seeking what pleases us or satisfies our immediate desires, without considering God’s will. While we may prioritize pleasing others or pursuing our own interests, God’s ultimate desire is for us to align our hearts with His.

David, in his pursuit of God’s truth and a pure heart, understood the importance of seeking God’s guidance. He recognized that God alone is the source of wisdom, truth, and life, and the key to walking in His ways is to fix our gaze upon Jesus.

Today, let us humbly acknowledge our need for God’s instruction and earnestly desire for our hearts to be centered in His will. Jesus is the only one who can transform and purify our hearts, leading us to grow in integrity, justice, and truth. As we seek God’s paths, may we be reminded of the words of Ecclesiastes 12:13: “Here now is my final conclusion: Fear God and obey his commands, for this is everyone’s duty.”

Let us ask the Lord to establish within us a heart filled with reverent love and a deep longing to follow His truth. May our hearts be purified and aligned with God’s will, so that we may experience the blessedness of seeing Him. As Matthew 5:8 reminds us, “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.”
